Our history

Île de Ré wines, Cognacs and Pineau des Charentes

Île de Ré and its vines

A long history!

We know thatas early as the 13th century, Cistercian monks grew grapes and made wine on the island. Winegrowing has continued ever since, reaching a record area of 2,000 hectares in 1950!

On 24 December 1950, Christmas Eve, the Île de Ré winegrowers decided to establish a wine cooperative. Officially founded in 1951 at Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré, it operated alongside a vegetable growers' cooperative..

In 2008, the vegetable growers' cooperative, now dedicated to the famous Île de Ré PDO potatoes, and the wine cooperative joined forces to create Uniré, the union of Île de Ré cooperatives.

Since then, the Île de Ré winegrowers have continued to evolve and innovate, with quality at the heart of everything they do.
